Laser hair removal at Verve Cosmetic Clinic. Speak with our team about reducing unwanted hair on the face and body.
Laser hair removal uses laser energy absorbed by the pigment in the hair to heat the follicle and reduce its ability to grow hair. It is used on the face and body, and it works as a course of treatments rather than a single appointment.
The realistic goal is a lasting reduction in how much hair grows, with what remains generally finer and lighter. It is not a one-off treatment and it does not remove hair permanently.
Laser hair removal is used at Verve for:
Not every laser suits every skin tone. Devices with longer wavelengths can treat a wider range of skin types more safely, and the settings are adjusted to your skin as well as your hair. Darker skin carries a higher risk of pigment change if the treatment is not matched correctly, which is why your skin is assessed before the first session and a test patch may be done.
You will be asked to avoid sun exposure, fake tan, waxing and plucking before treatment, because each of those changes how the skin and hair respond.
Redness and swelling around the follicles for a few hours after treatment is normal and expected. Less commonly there can be blistering, burns, crusting, and changes in skin pigmentation which can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin and can take months to settle. Rarely, treatment can trigger increased hair growth around the treated area. Sun exposure before or after treatment raises the risk of pigment change, which is why aftercare and sun protection matter.
Laser hair removal is not appropriate over active infection, sunburn or recently tanned skin, and some medications increase light sensitivity. Your skin and medical history are reviewed first. This information is general and is not a substitute for individual medical advice.
It gives permanent hair reduction rather than permanent removal. You should expect fewer hairs and finer, lighter regrowth, with maintenance sessions from time to time. Anyone promising permanent removal is overstating what the technology does.
Usually somewhere around six to ten, spaced four to eight weeks apart depending on the area. Facial hair often needs more, and ongoing maintenance.
Generally no. The laser needs pigment in the hair to work. Very fair, grey and white hair usually will not respond, and this is assessed before you commit to a course.
Avoid sun and fake tan, and do not wax, pluck or use epilation for several weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair root in place. Shaving is fine and is usually asked for. Full instructions are given when you book.
