Biostimulators & Bio-remodeling Sydney

Biostimulators and bio-remodeling treatments are injectables that work on the quality and structure of the skin over time. They differ from dermal fillers, which add volume in one appointment. These treatments prompt a gradual change instead, and the effect builds across the months after treatment.

They are medical procedures involving injections into the skin or the tissue beneath it. They carry risks, including uncommon but serious ones, and they are not appropriate for everyone. Treatment starts with an assessment.

These treatments are used at Verve for:

  • Gradual loss of firmness and skin quality
  • Facial volume that has thinned with age
  • Crepey skin on the face, neck and décolletage

What Is the Difference Between a Biostimulator and a Bio-remodeling Treatment?

A biostimulator prompts the body to lay down its own collagen in the treated area. The product itself is gradually broken down, and what remains is the tissue your body has produced in response, which is why the change appears over months rather than days.
A bio-remodeling treatment uses hyaluronic acid at high concentration, spread through the skin rather than placed in one spot. It hydrates the tissue and supports the skin around it. It is not intended to add contour.
Both are different again from a dermal filler, which sits where it is placed and gives volume immediately.

The Treatments We Use

Verve uses products included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods:
Poly-L-lactic acid, a collagen biostimulator used for gradual, generalised volume and firmness
Calcium hydroxylapatite, a biostimulator that gives some immediate structure alongside a collagen response
High-concentration hyaluronic acid for bio-remodeling, used for skin quality and hydration
Which of these suits you, if any, depends on what you are trying to change and on your anatomy. Your doctor will explain the differences and recommend an approach at your consultation.

What Happens During Treatment

Your appointment starts with an assessment and a plan for the areas to be treated. The product is injected using a fine needle or a cannula, at a depth chosen for the product being used. A topical anaesthetic can be applied first. Most appointments take around 30 to 45 minutes. For some biostimulators you will be asked to massage the treated area at home for several days afterwards, and your doctor will show you how.

Results, Timing and How Long It Lasts

These treatments work gradually. There is no result to see on the day beyond swelling from the injections themselves. Change develops across roughly two to four months as your body responds. A course of two or three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is common, and where a result is achieved it generally lasts somewhere between twelve months and two years before a repeat is considered. Those ranges differ between individuals, and some people respond less than others.

Risks and Things to Consider

These are injectable procedures and they carry risks that should be understood before you decide. Common effects include pain during injection, redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness, which usually settle over days.

Less common but more significant risks include lumps or nodules under the skin, which with collagen biostimulators can appear months after treatment and may need further treatment to resolve; asymmetry or an uneven result; infection; and, rarely, injection of product into a blood vessel, which can restrict blood supply and cause tissue damage. Your doctor will explain how this risk is managed and what to watch for afterwards.

These treatments are not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active skin infection or inflammation, or where you have certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions, and some products are unsuitable for people with a history of keloid scarring. The risks that apply to you are discussed in full at your consultation. This information is general and is not a substitute for individual medical advice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A filler adds volume where it is placed and you see it that day. Biostimulators and bio-remodeling treatments change the skin and tissue gradually over months, and the effect comes from your body’s response rather than from the product sitting there.

Around two to four months for the collagen response to show. Nothing much happens in the first few weeks, which is normal and expected.

Commonly two or three, four to six weeks apart, though this depends on the product and on what you are treating. Your plan is set at your consultation.

Yes. Small lumps or nodules are a recognised risk, and with collagen biostimulators they can appear some months after treatment. Some settle on their own and some need treatment. This is one of the reasons the aftercare massage is not optional, and why follow-up is part of the plan.

Generally somewhere between twelve months and two years where a result is achieved, and it varies between individuals. Ageing continues in the meantime.
