Common Skin Concerns

Adult & Teenage Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions during the teenage years, driven largely by the hormonal changes of puberty. For some, Acne can continue into adulthood. With the right care, breakouts can be managed and the risk of long-term scarring reduced

What Causes Acne

Acne is very common in the teenage years. As puberty begins, a rise in hormones increases the amount of oil the skin produces, and this oil can combine with dead skin cells to block pores, creating the conditions for breakouts. It commonly appears on the face, but can also affect the back, chest and shoulders.
For many, acne is mild and settles with good skincare, but for others it is more persistent or inflamed, and can affect confidence. Treating it early and appropriately can help keep it under control and reduce the chance of scarring later on.

Teenage acne can be influenced by:

  • Hormonal changes during puberty
  • Excess oil and blocked pores
  • Genetics and family history
  • Skincare and everyday habits

Signs & Types of Acne

  • Blackheads and whiteheads: Blocked pores that appear as small dark or white bumps, often across the T-zone.
  • Papules and pustules: Red, inflamed spots, sometimes with a white tip.
  • Cysts and nodules: Deeper, more painful lumps under the skin that are more likely to leave scarring.
  • Oily, congested skin: Skin that looks and feels oily, with a rough or congested texture.
