Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Sydney

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses your own blood to support the way your skin renews itself. A small sample of your blood is taken and concentrated to draw out the platelets, which are rich in the growth factors your body uses to repair and rebuild skin.

Because PRP comes from your own body, it works with your natural biology rather than introducing anything foreign. At Verve, PRP is carried out by our medical team and is used to freshen and rejuvenate the skin, particularly on the face, under the eyes and neck.

PRP is often used to help with:

  • Dull, tired-looking skin and early signs of ageing
  • Fine lines and the delicate under-eye area
  • Uneven texture and acne scarring

What Is PRP and How Does It Work?

Your blood contains platelets, and platelets carry growth factors, the signals your body relies on to heal and regenerate tissue. PRP concentrates these platelets from a small sample of your own blood and delivers them back into the skin, where they help stimulate collagen and encourage the skin to renew. Over the weeks that follow, this can gradually improve the tone, texture and freshness of your skin. Because the plasma is your own, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low.

What Happens During a PRP Treatment?

A PRP appointment usually begins with a consultation to confirm the treatment suits you and to plan the areas to be treated. We then take a small sample of your blood, much like a standard blood test, and place it in a centrifuge that spins it to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma. The plasma is then applied to the treatment area, commonly through skin needling, which creates fine micro-channels that help it absorb into the skin. Treatments are often focused on the face, under the eyes and neck.

Is There Any Downtime or Side Effects?

PRP is generally well tolerated, but because it involves needling the skin, some temporary redness, swelling or sensitivity is normal afterwards and usually settles over the following days. To get the most from your treatment, we suggest staying well hydrated and avoiding alcohol and excess sun beforehand, and afterwards avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat and active skincare products while your skin settles. We will give you full aftercare guidance at your appointment.

Who Is PRP Suitable For?

PRP suits people looking for a natural approach to skin rejuvenation, and it can be a good option if you prefer a treatment that uses your own body’s resources. It is not suitable for everyone, as certain medical and blood conditions, and some medications, can mean another treatment is a better choice. Dr Nasser will assess your skin and your suitability at your consultation and recommend the right plan for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PRP is made from your own blood. We take a small sample, concentrate the platelet-rich plasma from it, and return that to your skin, so nothing foreign is introduced.

PRP is most often used to rejuvenate the skin of the face, under the eyes and neck, helping with dullness, fine lines, uneven texture and overall skin freshness. What it can achieve for your skin is something we assess in person.

Because PRP uses plasma taken from your own body, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low. As with any treatment that involves needling, there can be temporary redness or swelling, which we go through with you beforehand.

This varies from person to person, depending on your skin and your goals. PRP is often done as a short course for the best result, and we will set out a realistic plan for you at your consultation.

Most people find PRP very manageable. You will feel the small blood sample being taken, and some sensation during the skin needling, but we take steps to keep you comfortable throughout.
