Acne Treatments Sydney

Acne is a medical skin problem that usually begins in the early teenage years and can last until the 30s and even 40s. Of course, if you have acne or even if you are left with scarring once it has cleared up, it can affect your confidence and how you feel about your appearance.

There are various ways to approach acne, depending on the severity and type of acne. The causes of acne are multi-factorial and different for each person, and therefore the treatments used vary from person to person.

At Verve, we treat acne with the aim to control symptoms by:

  • Preventing new spots from forming
  • Improving those already present
  • Preventing scarring

We offer a variety of treatment methods depending on the severity of your acne or scarring. This can include innovative Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) skin rejuvenation and advanced medical peels that can transform the appearance of your skin. The best treatment for you will be decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on the needs of the patient.

Dr Alia Nasser will assess your treatment after six weeks, and if beneficial, treatment will continue for four to six months.

What Causes Acne?

Acne is caused by overactivity of the sebaceous glands that secrete oily substances onto your skin. Cane is common in teenagers because of excessive hormone production of androgens during puberty. These hormones make the oil glands product more sebum and also clog the pore of your skin. It can also occur as a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy or when birth control pills are started or stopped. In addition, heredity may also play a role, where it runs in families. The use of certain drugs containing lithium and oily cream can lead to acne. In women, acne frequently worsens at the time of menstruation.

What are the Different Types of Acne?

Acne can appear on the skin in many ways and this will depend on the individual. This can include congested pores, whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, pustules and cysts, which are deep pimples and boils.

What Acne Treatments are Available?

There are a range of different treatment methods available that will be determined after your initial consultation based on the type and severity of your acne, as well as your skin and personal goals. Possible treatment options can include an at-home skin care regime specifically formulated to target acne, a range of chemical peels and Healite (Blue Light) Therapy.

There are also treatments specially designed to target acne-scarring rather than active acne, which can include eDermastamp and chemical peels.

What are some Skin Care Tips?

Practicing some skin care tips may prevent acnes from developing in the first place or it becoming worse. This can include making sure that you clean your skin gently with a mild cleaner twice per day. You should avoid using strong soaps or rough scrubs, as overstimulation can make the problem worse and aggravate the skin. You should only use cosmetics sparingly and make sure that you use products that are labelled ‘oil-free’ and ‘non-comedogenic’, which means it will not block your pore and aggravate the condition. Always try not to squeeze the lesions as this can lead to permanent scarring.
