How does liposuction work?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that improves a patient’s body shape by removing excess fat located in the area between the skin and the muscle on various parts of the body. The cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fat and after surgery these collapse resulting in an improved body contour. We are one of the only leading laser fat removal clinics in Sydney to use an advanced laser liposuction system (ProLipo PLUS) which is more powerful than other laser liposuction system, enabling the procedure to be completed in a shorter amount of time.
The ProLipo PLUS system was developed to meet the increasing demand for a minimally invasive body sculpting laser treatment that can be comfortably done with local anaesthesia. The following areas of the body can be contoured and tightened using ProLipo PLUS: chin, jowls, neck, arms, back, abdomen, flanks, hips, waist, thighs, buttocks, knees and male chest.
Most traditional liposuction methods today use a fluid injection to soften the fat cells so they can be broken up more easily, and involves physical force to truly break up the fat cells to be suctioned from the body via a cannula. This often causes a lot of problems as a result of the damage and trauma inflicted upon the connective tissue, blood vessels, and other tissue in the treated area.
Laser liposuction is a much gentler technique where a fibre is used to direct the laser energy. The heat generated from the laser literally melts fat cells allowing the fibre to easily cut through the area with the precision of a tiny fibre. The liquefied fat is then removed through a fine suction tube. The smaller equipment means a smaller incision is required with inherently offers many advantages.
The reason laser liposuction works so well lies in the accuracy and precision in targeting fat cells. This allows us to perform a major procedure on a patient and follow up with laser liposuction for the sculpting and detailing of the treated area. The increased precision of laser liposuction means less risk of causing trauma to the neighbouring tissue.
Who can get Liposuction?
Most candidates are of average size but have localised areas of accumulated fat which concern them. The cosmetic success of the surgery is not dependent on the amount of fat removed, instead it is the dramatic change of the patient’s silhouette. Usually for women, this is ‘saddle bags’ and for men it is ‘love handles’. Liposuction does also slightly improve the appearance of cellulite, although it doesn’t eliminate it completely.
How long does liposuction last?
After liposuction, the body’s new shape is more or less permanent. If a patient does experience a moderate weight gain after the procedure then they will become a ‘larger’ version of the new body shape. As long as the patient does not gain excessive weight, the new, more pleasing silhouette remains!
