Ever considered a facial rejuvenation procedure but you don’t want to undergo a face lift? You may wish to investigate facial fat injections. Also known as a fat transfer, this innovative procedure can restore attractive contours to your cheeks, chin and under eye area and plump up lips.
The facial fat injection or Microlipinjection is a cosmetic method in which body fat is removed from a patient, cleaned and re-injected to plump sunken or thin areas of the face.
Fat transfer can reduce the signs of ageing, including:
- Smile lines
- Frown lines
- Marionette lines (running from the sides of the mouth down to the chin
- Wrinkles and furrows
- Hollows in the face such as under the eyes or under the cheekbones
- Loss of volume in lips
- Scars or depressions in the face such as those from acne
This treatment requires three steps:
- Firstly, fat is removed from the areas with excess tissue (such as abdomen, thighs, or buttocks). Using liposuction methods, the fat cells are removed with a small hypodermic needle that is designed to prevent damage to the cells.
- Secondly, the fat cells are cleaned. Once enough fat has been collected, it is spun at a rapid speed in a centrifuge to separate cells from liquid which may have been collected during liposuction.
- The final step involves the injection of the fat cells. Using a separate syringe, the doctor will transfer the fat cells through an injection into the desired facial areas.
The difference between the facial fat injection and other dermal fillers is the duration of the results. Generally, dermal fillers break down and vanish over several months. Because of this, dermal fillers require additional treatments to maintain results. The effects of the fat injection can last up to two years with some patients having lifelong effects. This procedure is also perfect for anyone who has allergies as the fat injection does not introduce foreign materials into your body.
After the procedure, patients may experience slight swelling or bruising at either the donor site or injected site. This can be expected to calm down in a few days.
