Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Stop hiding your shape in loose, baggy clothes and feel confident again. Achieving a flat, solid stomach can be difficult when those sit-ups and healthy diets are not delivering the desired result. Abdominal tone can be improved by exercise, however, the stubborn excess skin cannot be lost. Where skin has been stretched and will not retain its previous shape, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can achieve that contoured body shape you desire.

What does a tummy tuck procedure involve?

Abdominoplasty is a reconstructive surgical procedure performed under sedation or general anaesthetic. A horizontal incision is made along the lower abdomen where weakened muscles and tissue of the abdominal wall are restored and tightened with stitches; removing loose skin and tissue. The results are a flattened, firmer and smoothened stomach-area.

What are the two treatment options?

There are two options for a tummy tuck. Dr Nasser will discuss your desired results with you, and determine the appropriate procedure during your consultation.  The first option is a complete abdominoplasty, where the abdomen will be cut from hipbone to hipbone and the umbilicus (belly button) is repositioned. This is the option for those patients who require the most correction. The second, is a mini abdominoplasty, often performed on patients whose fat deposits are located below the navel and require shorter incisions.

Are you a candidate for a tummy tuck procedure?

The best candidates for a tummy tuck are patients who are in good shape, are not overweight, but with loose abdominal skin and muscles. This can be due to multiple pregnancies, a loss of skin elasticity due to age, or extreme weight loss.

What you can expect post-surgery?

The first two weeks are the most important with restricted movement encouraged where the abdomen feels “tight”. You may be sensitive post operation where you will be prescribed with a pain relief medication to manage discomfort and help alleviate these symptoms.

Full recovery usually takes up to six weeks where bruising/swelling will have subsided and you will get a good idea as to the final result at this point. The scar positioned to be hidden under your swimsuit and around the belly button begins to fade after 3 months and may take a year to reach its final appearance.

For an improved abdominal contour, tone and function, schedule a consultation to discuss your desired look with Dr Alia Nasser and determine which procedure(s) will best suit your needs.
